You Are Not Alone

It’s a terrible and frightening thing to be alone—truly alone, not just for an hour, or even a day, but all the time. But we Christians are not alone. Of course, Jesus is always with us, as he told us in Matthew 28:20. But we are also never alone because Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us, just as he promised:

But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.[1]

The Holy Spirit dwells in us.[2] He is in our hearts, affirming our relationship with God as his children.[3] The Holy Spirit intercedes for us, helping us to pray as we should.[4] He is our advocate before God when we sin,[5] and he is also our teacher.[6] In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul seems to say that the Spirit is instrumental in giving the spiritual gifts we each receive.

I admit that I often take the Holy Spirit for granted. I seldom think about him. But I’m glad he’s there—always there.

So thank God and Jesus Christ today for sending us the Holy Spirit, so that we would not be truly alone.
